Professional Chef Knives

Professional chef knives are the highest quality and most used knives around. They get almost constant use which requires the hardest and sharpest blade to avoid constant re-sharpening. They almost always have a very high carbon content although stainless steel can still be found in many kitchens.

The most widely used professional chef knives is the French knife which is also commonly called a chef knife.  They are 8-14 inches long with a 1-2 inch wide blade. The blade edge is slightly curved giving the knife a good rocker. German versions have a exaggerated curve at the very tip of the blade which makes them more versatile.

Professional chef knives will easily cost in the hundreds of dollars but when they are properly taken care of they can last a lifetime. There are many quality manufacturers located globally although some of the best kitchen knives tend to come from Germany, France, Spain, and Japan.
