Knife Block

A knife block is typically a wooden block with deep and narrow holes cut into it to specifically fit various sized blades. They are used for safely storing a set of knives, usually located in the kitchen. Although wood is the most used material, there are plastic and metal versions to suit any kitchen aesthetic.

A knife block is typically angles so the longer and wider knives will be located at the top, often with a sharpening and de-burring tool alongside. This tool is often mistaken for an edge sharpener but is actually used to keep the blade edge from folding over and becoming dull. This is often why a blade dulls and can be prevented by using this tool after each use.

The lower levels on the knife block are used to store the smaller knives such as multi-purpose knives, paring knives and other smaller blades. The angled block allows all the blades to be easily seen, grasped and removed without disturbing any of the other blades.
